Keynote Speaker for IGED 2023 is Sarah Khan!
Sarah Khan is a structural engineer working for the Kiewit Power Engineering Group, and a KCMO native. Sarah holds two bachelor’s degrees - in Architectural Engineering and Civil Engineering from Missouri University of Science & Technology in Rolla, Missouri.
Sarah joined Kiewit in 2019 as a structural engineer and has had 4 years full of learning and professional growth. During her time at Kiewit, she has worked on construction sites, in addition to designing over 4 combined cycle power plants producing over 1000 MW each, as well as studies promoting hybrid gas turbine systems.
In addition to her daily responsibilities, Sarah led the Structural Department philanthropy efforts, and the intern program. She was one of the founders of the Kiewit Young Professional’s group and was the Professional Development Chair for KieWomen; a group dedicated to supporting women in the organization. Sarah has also been actively involved in the Society of Women Engineers since her bachelors in 2015. Sarah is currently the President of the Concrete Community of Practice at Kiewit, where she guides the department on concrete standards and initiatives.
Before Kiewit, Sarah had two Internships with Black & Veatch and one internship with Turner Construction, all in Missouri. Sarah was a lead for Engineers Without Borders and guided groups of engineering students to Bolivia with the goal of building potable water systems for communities in need. She took a total of four separate trips working on two separate projects during this time.
A couple of fun facts about Sarah – she loves traveling with her husband. Their most recent trip being New Delhi, India. While at home she enjoys riding her motorcycle around Virginia, and cooking cuisines from around the world.
